A NORTHERN WHITETAIL'S DILEMMA

Every time deer come to my yard  and pulled on a branch he'd get a face full of snow; in temperatures 20 degrees below normal and in a storm that dumped 3 feet of snow overnight this past February. Deer like to feed on some of the fir trees and use their cloven hoofs to dig up nuts and dried apples.nI put out wildlife grain and cracked corn, the winters become harsh, with biting wind and below zero temperatures and when the snow is extremely deep the deer go deeper into the woods on the south side of the ridge, with good sheltering trees. They need to save their energy so they will be able to ride out the wet, cold weather of March and April. I look forward to seeing them every year , They are beautiful Ruminant mammals with cloven hoofs, antlers are seen on the males. Sometimes you can see them under the fir tree with the branches heavily laden with snow and the silhouette it is awesome.
